gnome-terminal font prefs should be invoked with filter applied
Submitted by Telsa Gwynne
Description
Gnome-terminal -> preferences -> browse fonts. This products the font selector. It has no filters applied. gnome-terminal can't handle proportional fonts. If you try it, it lets you, and then you get stuff l i k e t h i s h a p p e n i n g. (That will only make sense if you don't have a proportional font in whatever's rendering that: spaces everywhere.)
This is easy to solve if you know what happened. It's impossible if you're new to Gnome and don't know what happened.
I think that the font selector should be started with a filter of usable (monospace? all but proportional?) fonts applied if you're starting it from gnome-terminal.
