gnome-terminal becomes unresponsive on (first) maximize

Description
I have faced this problem several times and have not been able to reproduce it reliably each time.
- Start a new gnome-terminal; this terminal is not maximized.
- Without any activity on the terminal, maximize it.
On doing this, the terminal either appears completely blank (no prompt) or the initial prompt appears but is unresponsive. If it is resized and maximized again, then the prompt appears and is responsive.
