Select text to copy to clipboard

Description
Similar to other terminal emulators, an option should be made available to allow copying of text into clipboard on select.
On IRC, there are general rumblings of agreement between administrators who regularly work on Windows (putty) and Linux (gnome-terminal) for remote SSH sessions.
In Windows/putty, selecting a block of text will place it into the clipboard without any further action (middle-click, right-click, ctrl-shift-c, etc).
In gnome-terminal, these actions are ignored. A user option should be made available to facilitate copying straight to the clipboard upon text selection.
This could rapidly speed up some administrative work - after all, when do you select text without the intent to eventually copy it into the clipboard?
