gnome-terminal: colour coding

Description
Please describe the problem: It's really easy to get 30 gnome-terminal windows open, and then shuffle/tab/switch through them all to find the right terminal.
It feels really unproductive, something we should be better at.
My idea: take the existing ability to colour code a terminal (by navigating through the profiles menu), and make it easier: add a colour panel that can mark any tab as a certain colour. The gnome-terminal user can then choose how to work - all blue tabs might be for that mail server problem at the moment, and maybe red might mean the intermittent apache segfaulting problem.
Later, perhaps each same coloured tab could be grouped into it's own gnome-terminal group and a name easily given to it.
Just an idea, but I can imagine that it would be a simple "why didn't we do this before" change.
