gnome-terminal crashes with seg fault (gnome-terminal Crash at 207.58.22.62)
Submitted by gta..@..mn.edu
Description
Package: gnome-core Version: 1.0.53 Severity:
Synopsis: gnome-terminal crashes with seg fault Class: sw-bug System: Ret Hat linux 6.1, intel SMP.
Description: gnome terminal crashes with segmentaion fault when running remote application (through telnet) on VMS host.
This happens both with gnome shipped with Redhat 6.1 (1.0.48?) and current (1.0.53).
It is reliably repeatable.
If I can provide any further help tracking down the problem, please let me know.
How-To-Repeat: I use gnome-terminal to telnet from home to an OpenVMS 6.2 system. Several actions on the VMS system cause gnome-terminal to crash with a segmentation fault. One reliable method is to use the VMS TPU editor. Upon exit (ctrl-Z keypress), gnome-terminal crashes.
Two thoughts which may be of help: First, VMS uses a very detailed knowledge of the VT100 command set. VMS applications such as TPU often show up flaws in unix or other terminal emulation programs. I don't mean that gnome's emulation is flawed, but VMS may use VT commands which are not commonly encountered. Second, I believe the crash is related to cursor positioning - possibly below the "last line" of the display. Eg, normally I use the terminal set to 50 lines. If I do (in VMS) "set terminal/page=49", them there is no crash. If I do "set terminal/page=50", then it does crash upon exiting TPU. Wonder if the cursor is trying to move to line 51 causing the segfault? Just a wild guess!
