gnome-terminal delete key functioning as backspace
Submitted by djb..@..il.com
Description
package: gnome-core version: 1.0.51-1
with the gnome terminal on standard settings the delete key is functioning as a backspace key. The backspace / delete key option in the preferences also has no effect.
This is on a redhat 6.0 system upgraded with the rpms from the Gurulabs ftp site.
The computer is a pentium with a UK keyboard.
other programs tested rxvt, netscape gnp all behave correctly.

What is the outout of stty -a?
For gnome-terminal it should be ^H for "erase"

Description:
Since I upgraded from GNOME 1.1.9 to 1.2.1, my delete key in
gnome-terminal has started acting as backspace (delete-prev-char)
instead of delete-next-char. In xterm, the console, and previously
gnome-terminal, backspace sent '^?' and delete sent '^[[3~', which
worked fine. Now, in gnome-terminal, backspace sends '^H' and delete
sends '^?'. This mapping makes sense, but both end up performing
delete-previous-char. 'stty -a' shows that erase is by default mapped to
'^?'; however, I've used 'stty erase' to map it to ^H with no effect. In
xterm and the console, both ^H and ^? are also interpreted as
delete-previous-char. It seems that the best solution would be to allow
custom key mapping specific to gnome-terminal, as suggested by ticket
#9690
