A security issue in gnome-terminal
Submitted by sze..@..bme.hu
Description
Package: gnome-terminal
In my company there are machines which are used by more people daily. It means, that I can't leave terminal windows open if I don't want other people to access my shell. But I'm lazy to reopen them when I use that machine (it requires telnetting to my personal machine, setting the DISPLAY, starting gnome-terminal, etc), so I use the 'vlock' command to lock the shell.
But one day I found out that anyone could open a new shell with the "New shell" menu entry. And that shell is not locked any more.
So I don't even call this a security hole, a bug or anything. I should have known that there is a way to "unlock" the vlock :) BUT BUT BUT my problem is that it "feels" secure. I feel that after vlocking the terminal nobody can use it.
I don't have good ideas how to "solve" it or to solve it at all.. maybe a "lock" menuentry would be useful or an option that asks for the password on opening a new terminal.
Thats all, thanks,
Pista
