Reduce memory consumption from featured app banners

Philip Withnall requested to merge pwithnall/gnome-software:pixbuf-allocations into master

The main commit here trims the images for featured app banners so the loaded pixbufs are much smaller, saving 12MB of heap. The other commits are cleanups I saw on the way.
