Looking for updates takes forever - "remote vendor-directory has no cache signature"
After a fresh boot and opening the gnome-software window, viewing the "Updates" screen shows a spinner and nothing else. It remains forever stuck in this state (even after closing the window and waiting a few hours) until the stop button is pressed. After pressing it, the spinner remains, but the following changes happen:
- A message of "Looking for new updates... (This could take a while)" appears beneath the spinner
- An error message of "Unable to get list of updates: remote vendor-directory has no cache signature" appears in a toast
Pressing the stop button again (any number of times) has no further effect.
The end result is that gnome-software is unable to fetch updates. pkcon update
and dnf upgrade
, and flatpak update
all still work, though. Refreshing PackageKit's cache with pkcon refresh force -c -1
has no impact on the update screen.
