BIOS update: warning message needed when the LID is closed
I have a Dell XPS13 from 2018 and the BIOS update through gnome software is really convenient. But I discover a serious issue which might brick the device of a newbie user. My laptop is connected to a Dell DS1000 docking station and I use only the external monitor, the LID is closed. So when I accepted the BIOS update from gnome-software, the computer restarted and nothing happened on the external screen. Actually the BIOS was being updated but I did not notice because the LID was closed. I knew what was happening so I opened the LID. But a newbie user could press the power button of the docking station in the intention to power up the computer. But that would actually power down the computer while the BIOS was updated, actually bricking the device. So, at least, so visible warning that the LID should be open before restarting the computer is crucially needed. More generally, putting BIOS updates in the hand of newbies might be dangerous.
