Rename ‘Install’ and ‘Remove’ buttons as ‘Download’ and ‘Uninstall’
Hoping to start a bit of a discussion about this. It’s a change we’ve carried in Endless for a while, and the justifications for it seem fairly generally applicable, so I was wondering if there was appetite for upstreaming it. If not, it can stay downstream.
- Rename the ‘Install’ button to ‘Download’ — this highlights the fact that an app or update needs to be downloaded (potentially with a cost) before it can be installed. In cases where the app is already locally available (in particular, for when it’s on a USB stick, as per !216 (closed)), the button label would remain as ‘Install’.
- I was wondering about the label ‘Download and Install’ to make it clear that installation will happen after download, but it’s a bit verbose. Potentially it could be used in the upgrade banner, where only one button is being shown, and it’s arguably more important to be clear about whether the upgrade is being downloaded (only) or downloaded and then installed, since you can’t revert an upgrade.
- Rename the ‘Remove’ button to ‘Uninstall’ — this differentiates it a little from the ‘Remove shortcut’ button through its use of a different verb.
If any of these changes are wanted upstream, I can put together a merge request.
