Poor communication regarding proprietary software, better to remain neutral
Hi,
As you can see in the screenshot, the mention of proprietary software is very deceptive.
I think it is nice to show our love to open source software, but it is really a bad approach to put a sad smiley and warn the user of potential insecurity etc...
- for a proprietary software publisher, it gives the feeling that they are not welcome and maybe should consider removing their software from Flathub.
- this is very much a point of view and not a universal one, gnome-software isn't here to tell people what they should think but just give facts
- regarding security, there are very insecure and never code reviewed open source software, while at the same time very secure proprietary ones. So no one can make the statement that a software is secure because it is open source, or insecure because it is closed source. Here again gnome-software is misleading the user.
- the sad smiley feels childish and unprofessional.
In conclusion, I think it is good to mention if the software is proprietary; but it isn't good to elaborate in a misleading way using sad smileys, unnecessary warning icons (there is also danger with opensource software) or even a locker icon which I've got no idea what it means.
Thank you very much for considering this issue.
