Implement "Hold to Reveal" for Password Visibility
Feature summary
I would like GNOME Shell to adopt a "hold to reveal" functionality for password fields to enhance security. Currently, GNOME Shell uses a toggle feature for password visibility, which can inadvertently expose passwords to shoulder surfing. This feature isn't optimal for maintaining security in environments where privacy is crucial.
How would you like it to work
The "eye" icon in password fields should be modified to reveal the password only while it is being actively clicked and held down. Once the click is released, the password should automatically hide again. This method aligns with security practices on other platforms like Windows Hello, which do not use a toggle but require the icon to be held down for the password to remain visible, and macOS (no reveal feature). This approach minimizes the risk of password exposure to onlookers and reduces the potential for accidental visibility after authentication.
