Lock screen: Clicking outside the eye icon resets the password field

Bug summary
In the password field of GNOME lock screen, clicking the area around the eye icon clears the password and resets the password visibility status.
Steps to reproduce
1. Lock the screen. Ctrl+L.
2. Bring up the password entering screen. Space or click, or type anything (this doesn't work when just booted).
3. Type something, click the eye to reveal the text.
4. Click the area around the eye.
What happened
The password is cleared, the eye (visibility) status is reset to not-visible.
There is no indication for the reason of such behavior.
What did you expect to happen
Does nothing when the click missed the eye icon. Or toggle password visibility.
Not clear password.
