Calendar in top bar won't stay open and hides my working area
I use the calendar in the top bar to check dates, etc., when working out conferences, bookings and other stuff. Since the calendar moved to the middle of the top bar, it has become less useful because it covers up a large chunk of my working area (the spaces right, left and below it aren't big enough to fit anything useful in them) and the calendar also closes when it loses focus so that I have to re-open it when I want to continue looking at it, which is even more annoying if I was looking at some date in the distant future.
A calendar app wouldn't fit my usecase as I want to see an overview of the month where I only care about dates against week day and week numbers. On top of which, calendar apps tend to use a lot of screen space.
Ideally, the calendar could be persistent even when it lost focus and it wouldn't be right in the middle of the screen (or if I could disable the notification area to the left of it).
