Window titles in Overview cover Dash icons
Affected version
Manjaro and Debian 12 GNOME 44.5 and 43.6
Bug summary
Under certain very common circumstances, the titles of open windows significantly cover the dash icons. While the dash icons are still clickable, this is antithetical to fast interface usage because the window titles can pop up and cover the part of the icon you are about to click before you have time to react to the icon being partially covered. As a result, you can accidentally click to focus a window and close the overview, while you meant to click a dash icon.
The amount of the icon that is partially covered can approach 50% (covering the middle of the icon) on smaller HD monitors (720p) with normal-sized fonts.
Steps to reproduce
- Open a large window (like GNOME Settings or Firefox).
- Optionally open several medium-sized windows.
- Open activities overview.
- Move mouse downward to the dash icons.
What happened
Part of the dash is unusable under certain circumstances.
What did you expect to happen
Uninhibited access to dash icons for fast and accurate app selection.
