Single maximized window on a workspace doesn't fill the full when transition-to-overview animation is active. Edge of background is visible
GNOME 44 (since GNOME 41).
Single maximized window on a workspace doesn't fill full when transition-to-overview animation is active. A tiny edge of background is visible.
Steps to reproduce:
- Open maximized window on a workspace
- Try very slowly with 3 finger gesture to switch to Overview.
- Edges of background are exposed in unpleasant and glitchy looking way.
Proposed behavior:
- In case of a single maximized window on a workspace the background should not be visible on this workspace when animation is active.
I have tracked down the behavior between versions and it appears:
- In GNOME 40 (and probably before) the maximized window is increasingly scaled down compared to background, so the background looked natural in animation and in the resulting Overview.
- Since GNOME 41 the maximized window on the first part of animation is scaled down to ~99% and then to 100% of background, so it looks glitchy.
PS. seems like duplicate of mutter#2958 (closed), some investigation here.
Fedora 34 (GNOME 40) - good looking animation:
Fedora 35 (GNOME 41) - changed logic in animation, unpleasant in the case of 1 maximized window
Fedora 38 (GNOME 44) - current state of things, still stays the same
