Half-tiling XWayland applications causes artifacts
Affected version
Arch Linux
Linux mysystem 6.3.1-arch2-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Wed, 10 May 2023 08:54:47 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux
GNOME Shell 44.1 (package: gnome-shell-1:44.1-3)
Mutter 44.1 (package: mutter-44.1+r2+g82bd40dcbc-1)
Screens: [Main 1920x1200][Secondary 1920x1200]
Bug summary
When half-tiling some application windows, graphical artifacts show up in the approximate area where the drop shadow usually is. This appears to only affect applications from which I suspect that they still use XWayland. First noticed after Arch Linux upgraded from GNOME Shell 43 to GNOME Shell 44.
Steps to reproduce
- Start a GNOME Shell Wayland session
- Open an application that uses XWayland
- Using your mouse, drag it to a vertical screen border so that it will be half-tiled
- The artifacts should be immediately visible
- For some more artifacts, or watching their behavior, resize the free window border
What happened
Black artifacts are drawn around the affected half-tiled window
What did you expect to happen
The half-tiled window is drawn without graphical artifacts surrounding it
