Cursor Spotlight to replace Ripples
The visual focus effect to pinpoint the cursor is a bit dated and has some issues:
- the ripple comes from where the cursor last was not where it is currently, making it easy to lose where the cursor is
- the ripples aren't the best way to bring your focus to where the cursor is and is a short animation
- it is easy to miss the ripples on large displays if the mouse is not in a region of the screen with common focus or on the edge
Basically I seen a "spotlight" effect in Windows 11 for locating cursor (see below) and I think it's a great implementation to steal emulate:
- the spotlight draws your attention to the cursor more effectively vs. ripples that try to get your attention
- the effect follows the mouse cursor until it is dismissed, which would be helpful for a case where someone is moving the mouse
