On-screen keyboard's Shift button toggles mode permanently, instead of just applying to the next keypress
Affected version
- OS: Fedora Silverblue 36.20220617.0
- GNOME Shell: 42.2
- Tested in Wayland.
Bug summary
I recently "updated" from Fedora 35 to 36, and this has brought with it GNOME 42.2. I've noticed that the Shift button on the on-screen keyboard now toggles permanently, whereas before it would apply just to the next keypress. This makes it very troublesome to type things, as usually Shift is only needed to capitalise one letter at a time. Now an additional keypress is needed every time to manually turn Shift back off after typing the one capital letter.
For now, I will be rolling the install back to Fedora 35, and continuing to use KDE Plasma for daily use on my tablet. As much as I love GNOME, for my tablet device the on-screen keyboard experience continues to be a deal-breaker (see #4849), and is now only getting worse.
Steps to reproduce
- Open the on-screen keyboard.
- Press the Shift key.
- Press a letter key.
What happened
The Shift mode remains active on the on-screen keyboard.
What did you expect to happen
The Shift mode should have automatically exited on the on-screen keyboard.
