Removing the minimise button as well as the title bar for certain apps has totally crippled the GUI
Affected version
Ubuntu 16.04.06 The default gnomeshell installed. I believe it's wayland.
Bug summary
Some time ago gnome shell appeared to remove the titlebars for windows on the screen. For some windows this is okay, but for windows like firefox, this means that if there are multiple tabs open (or even just a couple) it's difficult to find anywhere on titlebar to grab hold of to drag the window.
Now this was paaainful anyway. But then see, you went and got rid of the minimisation button as well. So now see it from my perspective, i've got some terminals below a firefox window. My options are:
-
to fiddle around to drag the bottom bar of the window to reduce the size of it, but then the tabs get closer together and it becomes more difficult to find something to grab hold of as the grab space in the titlebar becomes really cluttered and crowded with tabs as the window is resized.
-
Close down the browser, which if it's got tabs open, with slow websites, this can take a while for them to reload.
-
Fiddle around and try and move the window partially off screen.
I couldn't deal with that amount of fiddling around, so i ended up just uninstalling it and installed windowmaker instead.
Please restore the minimise button for the love of god.
Steps to reproduce
Install ubuntu 16.04.06. open firefox try and move firefox around other windows also on the screen
What happened
We got rid of both the title bar and also the minimise button, and it just totally cripples the gui.
What did you expect to happen
There should always be some space on a title bar to enable the window to be manipulated and this needs to be bigger than 2-3 pixels. Also there should always be a minimise button.
