add option to completely disable autoshow of the onscreen keyboard on touchscreen enabled devices
Hi,
I like my new thinkpad with touchscreen and gnome 3, it works grate with thr build in keyboard, trackpoint and touchpad (even if there is no pinch to zoom there like on windows) and now, where ive got a device with one, also with the touchscreen. You can so easily scroll to things and tab buttons, even if i prefer the trackpoint for most pointing and clicking input...
But one thing annoys me, the on screen keyboard, if i touch the screen tab into a text field, or just some none gtk3 window like sdl, WITH THE HARDWARE KEYBOARD gnome somehow assumes i would need a on screen keyboard and shows it, no matter if it makes any sense or not (which of cause gnome of cause cant know maybe i got only an tab switch button that emulates alt tab and no full keyboard).
I can hide it by tapping the hide button (down right with arrow symbol pointing down) or just by moving the cursor using trackpoint or touchpad, but its still very annoying.
But what it (gnome) should provide me is with an option to switch this auto show keyboard (and also another one to disable the swipe up form screen edge gesture cause it can be easily done by mistake when fast scrolling through a page using the touchscreen) feature completely off. But there is none. PLEASE ADD ONE!
Gnome 2 system settings in general had much more settings, like handling power controls more curate (what happens when i close the laptop lid or so), themes (i like a black backround without saving a black picture first by just selecting single color background option, and so on. you should have more options in gnome 3 not less, but thats only btw....
in general the on screen keyboard funktion is garbage, it workes for inputing text but backspace and return dosnt work correctly all time....
so for me its a annoying piece of software without an off switch, i can now decide if i switch back to mate without any good touchscreen capabilities or somehow hack together an off switch that should be integrated by you in the firct place.
thanks for fixing this in advance, and keep up the grate work!
if this on-screen-keyboard would be there gnome 3 is the best ui working with my touchscreen-thinkpad (its the T470s if you want to know)
it was even better then kde which got place 2 in what ive tested here ;)
