Updating Extension Requires Gnome Shell Restart
Affected version
Fedora Linux 35 64-bit
GNOME 41.3
Issue happens in X11 and Wayland
Bug summary
Updating most Gnome Shell Extensions from extensions.gnome.org causes the on/off toggle to say "error" after clicking "Install" on the install prompt. A logout or restarting Gnome Shell using the Alt + F2 + r combo allows the extension to be turned on again.
Steps to reproduce
- Visit https://extensions.gnome.org/local/
- Click the update button on an extension
- Click "Install" when prompted
What happened
Sometimes (most times, in my experience): The "ON/OFF" toggle instead turns to "ERROR". The extension is turned off and cannot be turned on again until Gnome Shell is restarted. Using Extension Manager to turn it on also does not work. It does seem that the extension is updated as refreshing the page does not yield the update button.
What did you expect to happen
The extension is updated and restarted/can be turned back on, with no errors.
