[enhancement] glibtop spams log
Affected version
- Arch Linux
- gnome-shell 41.1
- XOrg
Bug summary
Sometimes I have to use an Android device as modem. I connect it through USB. (Android has a feature called USB tethering that easily enable it) I noticed when I unplug the USB cable, gnome-shell spams the log (journalctl) with these lines:
Nov 27 13:05:16 arch-xps gnome-shell[1421]: glibtop(c=1421): [WARNING] Failed to open "/sys/class/net/enp0s20u1/statistics/rx_packets": No such file or directory
Nov 27 13:05:16 arch-xps gnome-shell[1421]: glibtop(c=1421): [WARNING] Failed to open "/sys/class/net/enp0s20u1/statistics/tx_packets": No such file or directory
Nov 27 13:05:16 arch-xps gnome-shell[1421]: glibtop(c=1421): [WARNING] Failed to open "/sys/class/net/enp0s20u1/statistics/rx_bytes": No such file or directory
Nov 27 13:05:16 arch-xps gnome-shell[1421]: glibtop(c=1421): [WARNING] Failed to open "/sys/class/net/enp0s20u1/statistics/tx_bytes": No such file or directory
Nov 27 13:05:16 arch-xps gnome-shell[1421]: glibtop(c=1421): [WARNING] Failed to open "/sys/class/net/enp0s20u1/statistics/rx_errors": No such file or directory
Nov 27 13:05:16 arch-xps gnome-shell[1421]: glibtop(c=1421): [WARNING] Failed to open "/sys/class/net/enp0s20u1/statistics/tx_errors": No such file or directory
Nov 27 13:05:16 arch-xps gnome-shell[1421]: glibtop(c=1421): [WARNING] Failed to open "/sys/class/net/enp0s20u1/statistics/collisions": No such file or directory
This would not be a problem if it happens once. The problem is it happens every second! Please note the warning class...
Steps to reproduce
NB: the issue appeared to me when using USB tethering but I do not know if it happens elsewhere.
- Connect your Android phone via USB
- Enable USB tethering
- Disconnect it
What happened
Gnome-shell spams log: seven lines of warnings every second
What did you expect to happen
Gnome-shell have yes to print these warnings in the log but only once
