Changing the alert sound doesn't take effect in GTK applications until closing the session
Affected version
Debian SID, Gnome Shell 40.4, both XOrg and Wayland.
Bug summary
Changing the alert sound doesn't take effect until closing the session and reopening it again. It happens at least with any Gtk application that uses gtk_widget_error_bell(), both in X11 and Wayland.
Steps to reproduce
- Open a terminal
- Type jkfie and press TAB twice to try to autocomplete. The alert sound should be played.
- Go to Preferences, Sound, and change the system sound.
- Go to the terminal and press TAB twice again.
What happened
The alert sound that will be played is the old one, not the new one. Closing the terminal and opening it again still doesn't fix it.
What did you expect to happen
Changing the alert sound should be propagated to all the applications without having to close the session.
