mediatek 8183: gnome-shell fails to start wayland or xorg

Bug summary
Trying to start gnome manually from the linux console using gnome-shell --wayland
or gnome-shell --x11
as described in https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GNOME#Manually. I am trying to start it Manually because gdm also fails to start: gdm#722 (closed)
Steps to reproduce
to reproduce for wayland
1.gnome-shell --wayland
to reproduce for XOrg
2.gnome-shell --x11
3.set DISPLAY = ":0.0" or unset or trying other values
What happened
- for wayland execution returns
Aborted(core dumped)t to wayland server0 ==s.native/meta-onscreen-native.c:204:meta_onscreen_native_notify_frame_complete: assertion failed: (!cogl_onscreen_peek_head_fram_info (onscreen)existexist
- for x11
```Failed to create backend: Unable to open display :0.0````
What did you expect to happen
expect gnome to start
