Use native names for Ukrainian cities
Affected version
OS: Fedora 33
Gnome Version: 3.38.3
Both Wayland and Xorg sessions affected.
Bug summary
I found that GNOME uses the wrong names for some Ukrainian cities. What needs to be changed:
- Kiev => Kyiv
- Uzhgorod => Uzhhorod
- Zaporozhye => Zaporizhzhia
Relevant information
Kiev, Uzhgorod and Zaporozhye are derived from the Russian language names. This norm was established during the Soviet times, when Ukraine was not an independent state, but now, since Ukraine has become an independent state a long time ago, it is worth using the native (Ukrainian) names of these cities. Please, see more details шт KyivNotKiev. Many companies and organizations already use the name Kyiv instead of Kiev, so I hope that GNOME will do the same.
