Gnome 40 workspaces improved workspace flow
Feature summary
Bigger workspace preview screens aren't as efficient as having app-grid and smaller workspace previews
When moving apps in-between workspaces, the Gnome 3 design provided a better UI as it had a lot of workspaces visible in the overview. Gnome 40 departs from this UI and makes a single workspace available and picking apps and moving them around is a lot of effort (waiting for the right workspace to show up underneath the cursor).
The older design also made it easier to understand how many workspaces are active at the moment, and gave an overview of all the apps on current workspace (as well as some info on apps on other workspaces)
How would you like it to work
Keep the Activities Overview the way it is right now, and only make the bar move to the top in a horizontal position.
It will make dropping an application from current workspace to another workspace (example from 1st to 4th or 5th workspace) a breeze, as it won't need me to drag the window to the edge of the screen and wait for the correct workspace to appear on my screen.
Current workflow of picking up and dropping an application on any workspace is perfect, and doesn't need to change the behaviour.
My approach would be to keep the layout of application grid with workspaces on top, and display open application previews in the same layout.
