merge run dialog and activities overview
Feature summary
The Activities
overview (Super/Meta/Win key) and the Run a Command
(Alt+F2) both allow to start programs in different ways. Activities
lets one launch applications that are registered via .desktop
files, but not via shell commands. The run dialog on the other hand only allows launching shell commands but not "desktop" applications.
At the moment a user has to decide how (Activities
/ Run a Command
) to launch a program and which keys to press (Super/Meta / Alt+F2). It would make sense to merge both ways, including auto-complete for shell command from the search path.
How would you like it to work
The Activities
overview should simply auto-complete commands from the search path and optionally allow to launch them directly in a terminal. The Run a Command
is then redundant and can be removed.

Windows (Windows Search) and Mac OS (Spotlight) allow launching applications via a search. A user does not have to decide how to launch an app.
