Feature request: GUI mouse mapping beyond first three buttons
I have an Apple Mighty Mouse, which is generally a great wired mouse, but which is known to develop extra sensitive side buttons over time. This creates the problem of constantly, inadvertently hitting the BACK button, often losing form data in the process. The only solution currently available is to use xmodmap -e
on the command line to remap buttons.
Feature summary
Mouse mapping is currently controlled by xmodmap and the GUI controls in Settings and Tweaks. Changes made via xmodmap revert to system defaults at restart, which is a problem for those of us who are mapping buttons beyond left, right, and middle click (the only settings available via GUI). GNOME should offer a method for advanced mouse button mapping, whether by GUI or CLI, where the mapping sticks after restart. Even if many advanced Linux users are capable of writing scripts to quickly remap buttons on restart, this should not have to be a DIY functionality.
How would you like it to work
One possible way to extend the existing, limited mouse mapping options would be to include an "Advanced" tab under Keyboard & Mouse in Tweaks. This tab could feature all 10 button mappings broken down line by line, including the option under each to DISABLE the click.
