Allow "type to search" on an empty desktop, without going into Overview mode first
Feature summary
It would be great if you could initiate a search from an empty desktop without going into the overview first.
How would you like it to work
On an empty desktop, simply begin typing the name of an application or file to begin a search. This would allow users to launch applications faster than in the current Gnome-shell where you would have to enter the overview first. It also fits into how search works in other Gnome apps like Nautilus.
