Gnome looks weird after upgrade on Arch Linux on VirtualBox
Affected version
Gnome 3.36 on Arch Linux on VirtualBox 6.1.4r136177 on Windows 10 host. Both XOrg and Wayland affected.
Bug summary
See screenshots
Steps to reproduce
- Install Windows 10
- Install VirtualBox 6.1.4r136177
- Set VMSVGA Graphics Controller in VirtualBox with 3D acceleration
- Install Arch Linux (and whatever hardware drivers you need, including
xf86-video-vmware
) - Install gnome:
pacman -S gnome
- Update Arch Linux:
pacman -Syyuu
What happened
Weird graphics appears after screen resolution update, or after screen has been to sleep. Screen resolution change is normally triggered when resizing the VirtualBox window, through the VirtualBox Guest Additions installed in Arch Linux. However, even without Guest Additions this bug appears after the screen goes to sleep. This did not happen before I did a full system upgrade, which among other things upgraded Gnome to 3.36. The Login screen (greeter) and other desktop environments (Xmonad) is not affected.
What did you expect to happen
Not have this weird graphics.

See here, here and here. Disclaimer: I have also made a post on the Arch Linux Forum, but I suspect the issue is more related to Gnome/VirtualBox than to Arch itself. Any help appreciated.
