option for GUI to control ALSA master volume
A typical GNU/Linux audio production environment with pulseaudio will bridge pulseaudio to JACK, so that JACK can manage applications which use it while pulseaudio manages other applications. With such a setup, pulseaudio's master volume only affects some applications, so adjusting ALSA's master volume is the only way to control the overall desktop volume.
For this reason, it would be nice if there were a way for volume keys and volume sliders in the status menu and sound settings to control ALSA's master volume instead of pulseaudio's master volume. Most users would not have a reason to do this, so such an option would not need to exposed in GNOME's settings, but it would be great if there were a way for administrators and distro maintainers to configure this so that GNOME can be used in audio production environments.
