Full screen modal dialog for VPN authentication is incompatible with custom password manager (KeePassX)
The gnome-shell vpn interface causes a full-screen modal dialog (or something equivalent to be created) and none of the shortcuts for my password manager are accepted.
For better integration with password managers you have to allow keyboard shortcuts to make it down to the applications that would consume them and then auto-fill the input box. If there is password input that needs to be filled you have to be able to allow a password manager to auto-fill the field.
As it stands with KeePassX I have to copy the password, initiative the VPN connection, paste the password, and then type in my OTP.
Alternatives:
- Save the password into the password manager for the VPN entry. This is slow, since it tries to connect with this password, times out (it's missing the OTP), and then you get a retry, and get to add your OTP token to the password to succeed.
- Get a password manager that integrates at the keyboard level like yubikey and can pass the password + OTP in one shot.
