Inconsistent directional navigation in activities overview
There were some great improvements on the activities screen usability lately concerning which window is selected when the mouse pointer happens to be over a window preview, directional navigation, etc.
Still there is a thing that makes things worse than before:
- Open a couple of windows in one workspace.
- Do the same in a second workspace.
- Now ensure that the mouse pointer will be over one of the two window previews in each workspace when the activities overview is invoked.
- Press Super to invoke the activities preview.
- One window is selected because of the mouse pointer being over it and if you navigate with the arrow keys you will move from the selected window as expected.
- While still in the overview, change to the other workspace.
- Again, a window is selected because of the mouse pointer position, but now this window is not the source for directional navigation, you have to press the Down key to select the first window (as it was before the navigation improvements).
I said that this makes things worse than before because it's no consistent at all. Sometimes a selected window is the source for directional navigation, sometimes not. This happens after a workspace switch from the activities overview, as explained above.
Also, I suggest that, when the mouse is not over any window, the first window be automatically selected so as to spare the user the annoyance of having to press Down. But this is a nice to have while I consider the above behavior buggy.
I guess that it's just a tiny fix to make the latest improvements really worth.
