Help information and Help-Icon Inside gnome-shell-extension-prefs
I would like that the tools that we use would remind us of how to use them or at least provide guidelines, just
in case a sudden amnesia would occur to the old timers, and a horrible pain of checking everything on Google and docs will prevail.
This is only incomplete pop-up example, in the image there is no "help button" to be seen, as I'm unsure where it should be.
Here is some things I would like to see gnome-shell-extension-prefs guidance providing:
How to install an extension manually.
Installing extension For a single user
- Create a folder
mkdir $HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
- Create a Extension's folder inside, named after the
"uuid":
of the extension's metadata.json data file.
Example:mkdir $HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/dash-to-panel@jderose9.github.com/
- Drop the Extension's files into newly created Extension's folder.
Example:$HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/dash-to-panel@jderose9.github.com/
- Reopen
gnome-shell-extension-prefs
and see that the extension is available, and that you can enable it by now.Installing extension For multiple users
Troubleshooting
- If you are unable to see extension after copying extension's files into Extension's folder
- Please check if your Extension's folder name matches
"uuid":
of Extension's metadata.json
