Accessibility add option to invert colors to top level accessibility settings section and provide dedicated shortcuts
Presently the option to invert colors is buried under zoom and could only be turned on if zoom has been turned on. which leads to a lot of complications, being a visually impaired person myself as i could only read text over darker backgrounds and also consider other users with a similar condition but could only read over light backgrounds something that cannot be expected to be consistent by default on most applications and websites where in the ability to invert colours heavily improves usability.
For instance, when setting up GNOME for the first time the welcome screen to setup (in Fedora) WIFI and new user does not use a dark theme and does not allow the use of most needed accessibility tools like zoom by default which makes it so much harder to setup with minimal visual clarity and no assistance.
In situations like the one described above we require option to invert colors preferably with a standard shortcut (Super + I) which is a standard on most other desktops and well known Gnome-shell-extensions used for the purpose of inverting colors. so that we don't have to go hunting for the option and could just turn on colour inversion by trying some shortcuts making it a bit easier on the eyes
Since this feature is now buried under zoom someone without the knowledge but in need of colour inversion would find it extremely hard getting started with Gnome or linux in general. Even under zoom the option has an odd name Black on white which has never been updated from the days where gnome did not have dedicated dark theme support.
Additionally, like mentioned earlier the option does not have its own dedicated shortcuts till this day, In X11 we have to configure a custom shortcut with xcalib -i -a
and assign it to a preffered shortcut. And in wayland the problem gets much worse as we have to rely on Gnome-shell extensions and most developers do not keep up and update their extensions to support current gnome version.
Please add an additional option to Invert Colors
Right at the top of accessibility settings and provide dedicated shortcut for the action. It would be appreciated if this could also only invert colors of current focused application like most gnome shell extensions do which would be an added bonus. Also try to make sure these Accessibility tools are available right out of the box even for the Onboarding process.
