Some hotkeys on Asus TUF FX505 laptop are not recognised correctly
Affected version
Gnome 41.5 on Manjaro
Bug summary
Some hotkeys on Asus TUF FX505GD aren't recognized properly by gnome:
Fn + F4:
- This is the mic mute key. This is not at all recognised by gnome.
- keycode 248 according to showkey command.
Fn + F9:
-
It toggles the display mode when connected to an external monitor. In windows it brings up the menu where you choose how the two displays will behave. Since I don't have a second monitor I haven't used this.
-
In gnome settings it is detected as
Super
+P
. -
showkey command shows an interesting behaviour:
- Press Fn key: no response
- Press f9:
keycode 125 press
and on the next linekeycode 25 press
- Release f9:
keycode 25 release
- Release Fn:
keycode 125 release
-
This is the only time Fn triggers a keycode.
Fn + F5: Fan mode key. Toggles between the 3 fan profiles: Normal
, Performance
and Silent
.
This key is neither detected by showkey nor by gnome but the key actually work and the fan profiles do change out of the box on linux.
It would be nice if it is possible for gnome to show a visual indicator for the change like on windows.
As far as I know pressing the keys change the value written in the file /sys/devices/platform/asus-nb-wmi/fan_boost_mode
from 0 to 1 to 2 according to the profile
-
0
means normal mode -
1
means performance mode -
2
means silent mode
The right alt key: keycode 100 according to showkey. This is not recognised by gnome
