Screen turns on every 30s as long as an external monitor is plugged in
I'm using Fedora 34 and Gnome 40.0.
I have a laptop with an external monitor plugged in using Mini DisplayPort. When the screen is locked, Gnome wakes up exactly every 30 seconds, then turns off the screen again after a few seconds. This does not happen when the external monitor is not plugged in.
This looks similar to bug 595, except that 1) I have an Intel video card, and 2) I don't get a blank screen - the monitor actually turns off.
Here's a log of the session DBUS: dbus.log
I have one hypothesis about what's happening:
- Gnome turns off the external monitor
- 30s after the monitor goes into powersave mode, it acts as if it was disconnected (I have a different bug report about that)
- Monitor disconnect causes Gnome to wake up
I've more or less confirmed that disconnecting a monitor wakes up Gnome. Is there a reason to do that? Could Gnome ignore monitor plugged in / unplugged events while the screen is locked?
