Updated OS, no longer working. :(
I have been using and loving screenshot for years now on my Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 16.04 desktops (both running Unity DTE).
I will apologize in advance as I know that I am not going to be using proper terminology. Please ask if I need to clarify something.
So, on both machines I ha(d)ve the screenshot icon locked to the launcher. When I want to take an image I click it, am given the gui with options and take my screen cap. Worked great for years.
I just recently updated the OS (Ubuntu 14.04) to v 16.04. Yeah, I know procrastination is bad. Anyways, after the update I can only run screen shot by typing gnome-screenshot
on the terminal. I can no longer 'lock to launcher' - I can't even get the gui at all.
It takes a screen shot of the entire screen with NO gui nor any way of choosing any other option. I am running v 3.18.0 on BOTH machines.
Any ideas how I can get my gnome-screenshot back to functioning normally??
I did just now read the man page (again) and see that I can use the command gnome-screenshot -a
and when I do I get the + (crosshairs) which allow me to draw a box for the area to capture which I can do, but this is extremely clunky and basically unusable. When I do this I get the output in the terminal of "** Message: Unable to select area using GNOME Shell's builtin screenshot interface, resorting to fallback X11." Maybe this is a clue to someone here?
