Replace Notebooks with tags
Just compiled gnome-notes to try out the new UI and everything is looking great, well done
I'm wondering whether using tags would be a better more discoverable metaphor in the long run, they could be expressed in a more standardised way across many applications similar to how it's done with MacOS.
I was a bit sceptical of them initially, in a large part because of the opinions shared after the semantic desktop days around manual creation of tags but when apps integrate with it, its actually quite powerful and feels like magic. I am using a download manager atm called Folx which allows to specify tags when I download something which is super useful when searching or opening up the file manager to locate the desired files, especially when the downloads folder becomes cluttered.
I like how you are providing the ability to use colour to organise notes but I think it could be even better if the tags themselves offered colours instead of the note, because a note may be associated with one or more tags so you might associate multiple colours to a single note. Something which wouldn't really be possible if you just made every note have a particular background colour.
The great thing is that integrating tags should be possible with tracker, @aday @bertob I know that you have been hesitant to adopt tags as part of different core apps in the past e.g nautilus. Is that something you would be willing to re-examine, this seems like a good place to use the new tag widget that ebassi is working on.
