ISO 9660 with Apple Extension do not work
When attaching disk images in GUI via the gnome-disk-utility
or via command line with the gnome-disk-image-mounter
the losetup -P
option or something equivalent is always applied. As a result, when mounting ISO 9660 images with Apple extension, the partscan will reveal the apple partition map and the HFS filesystem. This seems to be incorrectly handled in Linux or something - either way the filesystem contents are not usable.
Mounting the same .iso
file with sudo losetup -f "$iso"
works. Linux recognizes the ISO 9660 part of the image and allows mounting it. The contents are intact and usable.
An example ISO file for this can be found here, albeit it is probably copyright-protected: https://archive.org/details/milliemathhouse
