GNOME Settings does not validate proxy settings
Apparently GNOME Settings does not validate proxy settings and allows me to save an invalid state, which can result in awkward connection errors. (especially as the proxy setting are apparently not used by all software, such as dnf, which seems to ignore it)
Steps to reproduce
- Open GNOME Settings
- Go to network.
- Open proxy.
- Select "manual".
- Close.
What happens
An invalid proxy setting is saved.
This can lead to other errors in other software, e.g. I've then experienced that i was unable to download updates via GNOME Software, see gnome-software#839 (closed). (original bug report)
What should happen
Show an error and do not let me save this setting in an invalid state. Do validate the proxy syntax and possibly that it also works (a connection is possible).
System
GNOME 3.32 Fedora 30
