Configuring sample rate of a sound output device
I've noticed that changing the sample rate of the sound output to the speakers in not easy with Gnome. There is no graphical interface included which can do this. A friend of mine has a very serious audio setup and this was extremely frustrating to him, as he can change it on the fly with Windows and his setup allows you to hear a difference between the default settings and a higher sample rate quite clearly. He would normally change the sample rate multiple times per day.
In Windows it is possible to change the sample rate on the fly from a menu. The explaination for PulseAudio includes editing a text file as root and manually restarting PulseAudio. This seems like very bad UX and it doesn't feel very flexible. According to what

I'm not really a designer, but maybe it is possible to add an advanced settings button to the sound options like this: That way it wouldn't confuse general users, but it would enable audiophiles to have a better experience and more flexibility.
