Applications submenu redundancy (search and notifications)
The GNOME control center was improving a lot with every release. But the addition of the applications submenu in 3.32 doesn't look mature. It contains redundant options for search and notifications. If the applications submenu is supposed to replace the dedicated notifications and search menus, then please remove them. Now there are 2 places to configure these attributes and each menu does it a little different. Please keep consistency in mind.
Also, file types are added to the applications submenu. Is this really needed? Options like configuring the record time of the GNOME screen recorder are hidden inside dconf, scaling options for wallpapers are hidden inside dconf, themes, extensions and other useful settings are only available in GNOME tweaks (or dconf). All because it would otherwise make the control center too hard for 'regular' users. At least, that was the reason of dumbing down the control center with the release of GNOME 3.0. So why add these file types options but not the really useful stuff?
It starts to become a real mess... Please don't let the control center become a beta experience, because it feels and looks like one now. It's inconsistent and not fully maturely implemented.
So this is report is about addressing the following:
- Place search and notifications either in the applications submenu and remove it from the dedicated menus
- Or, remove search and notifications from the applications menu and retain the dedicated menus
- Be consistent, if the decision is to separate 'advanced' options from the default control center, then don't add file type options, those are more 'advanced' then e.g. scaling your wallpaper (which is actually useful to have like many other things that are now in GNOME tweaks or somewhere hidden in dconf)
