“Clear Cache” is present+disabled when it will never be enabled
gnome-control-center master, Ubuntu 19.04 beta
- Navigate to “Applications”.
- Select any app that does not use the system cache.
- Choose “Storage”.
What you see: A “Clear Cache…” button is present and disabled.
What you should see: The button is not present.
Generally, a control should be present and disabled only if there is something the user could reasonably do to enable it. If there isn’t, the control should not be present at all.
Whether an app has a clearable cache is dependent on the app author, not the user, and for some apps it’s just never relevant. So when there isn’t a clearable cache, it would be simpler not to show the button at all.
