Change the word "application" to "app"
Historically, GNOME has called applications applications. However, the convention nowadays is to call them apps. We should follow this convention - it sounds more natural and will be more recognisable to users, plus it's shorter.
"App" and "apps" are the terms that are now used in the HIG, and it would be great if GNOME's interfaces did the same.
Examples in Settings:
- The "Applications" panel. This should be the "Apps" panel.
- "Default Applications". This should be "Default Apps".
- Location services: "The following sandboxed applications". Should be
Location | Current text | New text |
---|---|---|
Panel name | Applications | Apps |
Panel name | Default Applications | Default Apps |
Location, Camera, Microphone | The following sandboxed applications | The following sandboxed apps |
Camera | No sandboxed applications | No sandboxed apps |
Multitasking | Application Switching | App Switching |
And so on.
