Unsupported Audio Codecs Displayed and Selectable
Affected version
- Pop! OS 20.04, kernel 5.17.5
- GNOME Shell 3.36.7
- gnome-control-center 3.38.3
- Using GNOME Flashback as packaged by Regolith (in case that matters)
Bug summary
In the Sound section of settings, all audio codecs are shown and selectable even when the target device does not support them. There is no indication when an unsupported option is selected that it is not actually being used.
Steps to reproduce
- Pair a bluetooth device that does not support a given codec (e.g. a non-Qualcomm headset will have no AptX support)
- Select the unsupported codec
What happened
Nothing actually changes.
What did you expect to happen
I would not expect unsupported codecs to be shown at all, but if I select one it should at least display an error so that I know I can't actually use it. It should not allow the invalid setting to persist in the UI.
Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.
Using pavucontrol, you can observe which codecs are actually supported and which aren't.
