[Feature] Allow setting backlight of external monitors
One feature that I would be happy to see in GNOME is the possibility to adjust the brightness of external HDMI monitors. While this is far from standard, a vast majority of monitors supports setting this through the I2C bus. This is perfectly supported by tools like ddcutil
(with which a possible GNOME implementation could work?), and would be an extremely useful for those working on multi-monitor setups.
Ideally, one would need a gnome-settings-daemon
API endpoint and an entry (slider?) in the Displays panel (or Power, as it is now), and hopefully even in the GNOME Shell top-right in the future.
Several GNOME extensions enable this using external services, e.g. https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4652/adjust-display-brightness/ looks like a good example.
Thank you.
