The display switch widget (Super+P) is inconsistent with the display options in the Settings screen.
On the Display Settings I can:
- Join or mirror displays.
- Use a single monitor, and specify which one.
When I press Super+P to switch outputs I can:
- Join or mirror displays.
- Choose the "built-in" monitor, which does nothing at all on my desktop PC.
- Choose the "external" monitor, which in fact turns on both monitors if one is turned off, for some reason.
Ideally, I should be able to join or mirror my displays, or just choose which monitor to enable (single monitor mode). Or just make the "built-in"/"external" logic work on desktop PCs, where built-in might be the currently active monitor, and external the disabled ones.
For more complex configurations I can always use the Settings screen. But as it stands, the display switch widget is not very useful and in my relatively normal setup of two 4K screens it is pretty much useless.
